Our promise about your data
What happens to your data if Observer ever shuts down. Last updated 2026-05-24.
Effective date: 2026-05-24 Last updated: 2026-05-24
The point of this page is short.
The promise
If Observer is ever wound down, sold, or otherwise stops operating in its current form, we will:
- Give the account owner of every paying customer at least 30 days' written notice by email before the Service stops being available.
- Provide a best-effort final export of all your data using the existing REST API. The export is best-effort because the form of the export will be whatever the API exposes at the time; we will not build new export tooling at the last minute, but we will hold the existing API up until the cut-off date.
- Document the cut-off date in the in-product notification mechanism so that a sign-in immediately surfaces it.
That's it. Three commitments. Aimed squarely at the failure mode where a small SaaS evaporates one weekend and customers wake up to a 404.
What this page is not
This page is not a warranty of continued operation. We are a small operation; we cannot promise to be here forever. The Terms of Service make the "as is" nature of the Service explicit, and the Privacy Policy sets out the data-retention windows that apply when an individual account ends.
This page also does not commit us to writing migration guides for competing services or to operating the Service in any particular fashion during the notice period. If we have the bandwidth to do either of those things at shutdown time, we will; we are not promising it.
Why we publish this
Two reasons.
First, because we believe operators evaluating Observer for procurement should not have to guess at a worst-case scenario. The default for small-vendor SaaS is silent shutdown; we'd rather call out that we will not do that.
Second, because the Terms of Service put as much risk onto the customer as English law permits. That is the trade-off behind a small SaaS at indie pricing, and a commitment of this shape is part of the counterbalance. We do not pretend to be a different kind of business, and we do not pretend that an "as is" stance is friendly without something to back it up.
What to do if you want a copy now
You don't need to wait for the shutdown notice to take an export. The REST API is documented at docs.use.observer/api. Personal data export under UK GDPR or EU GDPR is described in the Privacy Policy.
